Adaiantum – commonly known as Maidenhair
The genus Adiantum is easily recognised by its fronds with glossy brittle stripes. The leaf shape varies with the varieties – sometimes it is only a subtle difference.
Adiantum comes from the Greek, adiantos which means “to shed water” and refers to the water repellent nature of maidenhair foliage.
Always ensure some light, good drainage, keep moist but not wet & don’t forget to feed.
There are a large number of species (about 200) to suit a “collection” or a decorating or landscape position – yes there are some maidenhair that you can happily place outside – as long as its not in full sun or a wind. The varieties we have vary across the year & depending on our ability to source the varieties.
